ECLIPSE Digital Takes Center Stage at MIPRO 2026
The drive toward a digitalized and sustainable energy future reached a new milestone on May 25, 2026, as the ECLIPSE project participated in the prestigious MIPRO conference held in Opatija, Croatia. Within the framework of the workshop “Green Transition of the Power System – R&D Projects,” organized by HOPS and UNIZG, our partners showcased how digital innovation is empowering European consumers to lead the energy transition.
A Strategic Vision for Interoperability
Representing the project, dr.sc. Kristina Pandžić from the Market Sector at HOPS delivered a presentation highlighting ECLIPSE’s unique role in the European energy landscape. At the heart of the discussion was the development of the Common European Reference Framework (CERF), a comprehensive set of guidelines and protocols designed to ensure that energy-saving applications are consistent and interoperable across the continent.

Currently, the lack of common standards means that many energy apps use different platforms and formats, creating barriers for users. ECLIPSE is solving this by defining standard rules for new and existing applications, making them scalable and effective across all EU Member States.

Spotlight on the Croatian Pilot: The EnergyWhale App

One of the most exciting moments of the event was the demonstration of the newly developed EnergyWhale app, a key output of the Croatian pilot. Developed in collaboration with Uprise, the app serves as both an educational and operational tool for households and owners of renewable energy sources.
Key features presented include:
- Real-Time Insights: Users can monitor the energy mix (hydro, nuclear, solar, wind), grid frequency, and current power system status.
- Environmental Awareness: The app tracks CO2 emissions, helping users understand the environmental impact of their consumption habits.
- Price Signals: By providing data on day-ahead market prices, the app uses “push” notifications to encourage users to shift their consumption to periods of lower prices or lower grid stress.
- Sustainability Education: A comprehensive glossary and educational content empower citizens to become active participants in the green transition.
Collaborating for a Greener Power System.
The event gathered approximately 50 participants, including members of the scientific community, industry leaders, and policy makers. The main conclusion of the session was clear:
the transition to a greener power system requires a consumer-centric approach supported by interoperable digital frameworks.
By providing households with easy-to-use information and the ability to participate in flexibility schemes, ECLIPSE is not only helping to reduce energy bills but also enhancing the stability and resilience of the entire European grid.
With 15 pilot sites across 17 countries, the lessons learned in Opatija and through the EnergyWhale app are paving the way for a harmonized digital energy ecosystem that can be replicated throughout the European Union.
