ECLIPSE at Enlit Europe 2025: Driving Interoperability in Energy Applications Across Europe
From 18 to 20 November 2025, the ECLIPSE consortium took part in Enlit Europe in Bilbao, one of the most influential gatherings for the energy community. More than just a conference, Enlit serves as a living ecosystem where industry players, policymakers, innovators, and EU-funded projects come together to shape the future of Europe’s energy transition.
For ECLIPSE, a project focused on harmonising consumer-facing energy applications across the continent, the event was a key moment to demonstrate progress, engage with stakeholders, and strengthen strategic collaboration.
A Strategic Space for European Digital Energy Projects
Enlit has become a central platform for EU-funded innovation, particularly in the areas of digitalisation, data spaces, and consumer empowerment. For projects like ECLIPSE, which is developing a Common European Reference Framework (CERF) to standardise how energy apps operate and exchange data, the event provides three essential opportunities:
- Showcasing technical progress to an audience eager for interoperable solutions.
- Learning from the wider community, including DSOs, TSOs, retailers, and regulators.
- Building collaboration pathways with other European initiatives working toward similar goals.
This combination of visibility, feedback, and cross-project exchange makes Enlit a strategic accelerator for ECLIPSE’s mission.
Interactive Experience with the ECLIPSE App
Our presence at the exhibition floor allowed participants to experience ECLIPSE in the most tangible way: by interacting directly with the ECLIPSE end-user application.
Visitors explored how the app translates complex energy data into meaningful, easy-to-understand insights, showing in real time how the CERF principles are applied to real consumer tools.
Attendees tested functionalities such as:
- monitoring real-time energy use,
- viewing appliance-level insights through advanced NILM techniques,
- receiving personalised tips,
- and exploring intuitive visualisations that help consumers make more informed energy decisions.
By allowing visitors to test the app themselves, ECLIPSE demonstrated not only its technological maturity but also its commitment to user-centric design, an essential aspect of the project’s vision.

Panel Session Highlights
Beyond the exhibition booth, ECLIPSE was also invited to contribute to a panel session focused on digital architectures, interoperability, and data spaces.
This provided an opportunity to explain the origins of the project: an initiative born from the European Commission’s recognition that Europe’s energy-awareness applications were evolving in isolation, relying on fragmented data models and incompatible architectures.
In the panel, ECLIPSE partners highlighted several key messages:
- Europe needs a harmonised reference architecture to reduce integration barriers for developers and market players.
- Energy Data Spaces can unlock seamless data exchange, enabling innovation rather than hindering it.
- ECLIPSE’s NILM-based disaggregation approach demonstrates how advanced analytics can provide appliance-level feedback without requiring additional hardware, making energy insights more accessible and affordable.
- The project’s 14 pilot sites across 17 countries provide invaluable feedback that ensures scalability and real-world relevance.
The discussion reinforced the role of ECLIPSE as a cornerstone initiative in Europe’s digital energy transformation.
Strengthening Synergies Across EU Projects

Enlit is also the perfect moment for collaboration, and this year, ECLIPSE used the opportunity to reconnect with fellow EU-funded initiatives such as the BEGONIA project.
These exchanges go far beyond networking: they help align technical developments, avoid duplicated efforts, and amplify the impact of each initiative.
By working closely with sister projects, ECLIPSE contributes to a broader European movement aimed at creating interoperable, consumer-focused, and data-driven energy ecosystems.
Advancing a User-Centric European Energy Ecosystem
With the project now entering a crucial phase of development and validation, Enlit Europe 2025 marked a valuable milestone. The feedback gathered through hands-on demonstrations, panel discussions, and cross-project interactions will directly feed into the refinement of the CERF and the upcoming rollout of ECLIPSE components across Europe.
As we move toward the final year of implementation, ECLIPSE continues strengthening its position as a key contributor to Europe’s digital energy transition, empowering consumers, supporting market innovation, and building a unified foundation for future energy applications.
