CEZ Distribuce Empowers Consumers with Smart Energy Insights Through the ECLIPSE Project

As part of the EU-funded ECLIPSE project, Czech distribution system operator CEZ Distribuce is transforming the way energy data is used and understood by consumers. By advancing its mobile application called Proud, the company is introducing a range of smart services that promote sustainable energy use, improve outage communication, and provide personalised insights to 3.8 million connection points across the Czech Republic.

The Challenge

With growing demands for energy efficiency, sustainability, and digital engagement, CEZ Distribuce recognised the need to provide consumers with more than just raw consumption data. The challenge was to develop a scalable digital platform that could turn complex grid and usage information into actionable guidance—empowering customers while supporting the broader goals of grid stability and decarbonisation.

The Solution

The next generation of the Proud app introduces several new features designed to help users make smarter energy choices and better navigate supply disruptions. These include:

  • Personalised tariff recommendations based on household appliance profiles and consumption patterns.
  • Sustainability goals and energy-saving tips to encourage more responsible usage.
  • Real-time notifications for power outages, including those caused by natural disasters.
  • Consumption prediction tools using advanced data analytics.
  • Enhanced data visualisation, making usage trends and anomalies easy to understand.
  • Consulting and tailored advice based on individual consumption profiles.

These new services are designed to serve the entire CEZ Distribuce customer base, with select features available to users equipped with smart meters.

Implementation and Benefits

The app’s evolution is user-centric, with ongoing feedback loops ensuring that new features are intuitive and impactful. By helping users optimise their energy usage, Proud supports both cost savings and carbon footprint reduction, while also reducing pressure on the distribution grid.

Additionally, in times of disruption such as storms or natural disasters, real-time outage updates keep customers informed and confident.
