Empowering DSOs with a Unified Vision for the Future
DSO Entity presented its Technical Vision, with which it aims to establish unified framework and common language among DSOs, to guide a new system-of-systems to emerge that not only serves customers with a reliable, affordable and sustainable system but also strengthens the competitiveness for European industry.
The DSO Entity Technical Vision: A Unified Framework for Progress
The vision identifies four core areas that DSOs are working on, namely:
- Planning and investment: Maximizing the value for society with efficient and timely investments, expanding and smartening the distribution system.
- Market facilitation and prosumers engagement: Enhancing consumer value by facilitating system flexibility, enabling market access, and ensuring secure, equitable energy supply through regulatory and infrastructure improvements.
- Operations and maintenance: Upgrading distribution system management capabilities to address the growing demands of RES and DER.
- Resilience and Sustainability: Providing value to customers by adapting distribution grids and operations to climate change, ensuring resilience during extreme weather events, accommodating evolving energy consumption patterns, and addressing digitalization challenges through improved cybersecurity and risk management.
Digitalization: The Cornerstone of DSO Innovation
Digitalization and data are the foundation enabling DSOs to deliver value across their core areas and being the steppingstone for delivering value to customers. To cope with the growing complexity of digitalisation, DSO Entity is supporting the EC in building an EU role model that defines the roles and responsibilities and enables data interoperability across the Union.
ECLIPSE: Supporting DSOs in Realizing the Vision
ECLIPSE project aims to support DSOs into realizing this vision by putting together energy efficiency tools which usage stimulate demand response and flexibility to reinforce the stability and resilience of the electricity grids. ECLIPSE solution sets the basis for the faster integration of the smart meters’ deployment while empowers the customer voluntary schemes, monitor and control, billing, flexibility, demand response, etc. promoting a stronger availability and cross-sector sharing of data, in a customer-centric, secure and trustworthy manner.
