Driving Demand Response Innovation with Voltalis and ECLIPSE
As part of the EU-funded ECLIPSE project, Voltalis, a leader in demand response automation from buildings in Europe is transforming the way energy data is used and understood by consumers. By advancing its MyVoltalis mobile application and leveraging its proprietary software and hardware installed directly in homes and buildings, a range of smart services that promote sustainable energy use are introduced, outage communication is improved and personalized insights provided – giving end users control of their energy usage while participating to the energy transition. Voltalis currently manages over 200,000 connection points across France, UK, Spain, Portugal, Czech Republic and Finland with additional simulated pilot sites in Estonia, Denmark, and Belgium which will be developed specially for the ECLIPSE project, where the company acts as both technology provider and aggregator to balance energy needs in real-time.
The Solution
MyVoltalis introduces several features designed to help users monitor energy usage in real-time and participate in grid stabilization. These include:
- Near real-time monitoring of power consumption across all connected appliances, enabling users to make immediate adjustments.
- Power consumption management tools that allow users to schedule their appliance usage more efficiently, limiting consumption to necessary periods.
- Power limit notifications that alert users when their consumption exceeds predefined thresholds, enabling proactive energy management.
- Energy savings visualization showing the impact of Demand Side Response (DSR) events on heating and cooling appliances, displayed in both kWh and euros.
- Environmental impact tracking that calculates and displays CO2 emissions avoided through participation in DSR events, with graphical representations of their contribution over time.
- Personalized energy-saving tips based on user inputs about their lifestyle, property type, appliances and consumption patterns.
Voltalis has partnered with the company DIGITAL4GRID (D4G) a leading technology provider for real time flexibility orchestration services to test an innovative mixed model that combines explicit and implicit flexibility offerings. This partnership integrates the Voltalis cloud platform with dcbel’s Home Energy Station and the D4G Insights platform, allowing for expanded flexibility potential through the management of electric vehicles, photovoltaic installations and batteries. Users benefit from two complementary applications : My Voltalis for controlling heating and water heaters and the D4G App for managing EVs and solar installations.
Implementation and Benefits
My Voltalis is user-centric, ensuring that features meet actual user needs. By participating in the ECLIPSE project,
Voltalis can adapt and validate its approach to energy management across diverse European markets, demonstrating how digital tools can effectively support the EU’s energy transition goals. Voltalis will demonstrate how consumer facing applications can simultaneously deliver private benefits (cost savings and improved comfort) while supporting broader public interests like grid stability and decarbonization This alignment between individual and collective benefits is central to the ECLIPSE vision of transforming energy consumers into active participants in Europe’s sustainable energy future.
ECLIPSE continues to empower consumers
Voltalis’ contribution through MyVoltalis illustrates how end-user applications can bridge personal comfort with collective sustainability goals. Within the broader framework of the ECLIPSE project, these innovations demonstrate how consumers across Europe can become active players in the energy transition. As the project reaches new milestones, more updates, pilot results, and success stories will be shared.
