ECLIPSE DIGITAL at the 15th DACH+ Conference on Energy Informatics
ECLIPSE DIGITAL was represented at the 15th DACH+ Conference on Energy Informatics, held at Johannes Kepler University in Linz, Austria, from 21 to 23 September 2026. The event brought together around 80 participants from the DACH+ region to exchange knowledge on the development and implementation of information and communication technologies for the energy sector.
The conference featured 21 full papers and five short papers, covering topics such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Big Data Analytics and cybersecurity in smart grids.
Simplifying the integration of distributed energy resources
As part of the scientific programme, research related to ECLIPSE DIGITAL was presented through a paper investigating how the Matter protocol can simplify the integration of distributed energy resources (DERs) into energy data platforms.
Access to near-real-time data from DERs is essential for emerging energy services, but integration can be challenging due to vendor-specific solutions and technical complexity. The research addresses this challenge by integrating Matter into the DataWallet energy data agent through a modular Matter-Bridge, connecting the protocol to an existing MQTT-based data pipeline without modifying the system’s core architecture.
To evaluate the approach, the researchers developed an ESP32-based photovoltaic inverter simulator implementing relevant Matter device types and energy management functionalities.
The results demonstrated the technical feasibility of the proposed solution and showed how a network-commissioned DER device could be onboarded through a simplified process involving four user-interface selections and one code entry.
By reducing the complexity of device connectivity, this approach can help lower barriers to accessing energy data and facilitate the development of interoperable energy services.

Advancing interoperability in the energy sector
The presentation received a very positive response, with attendees showing considerable interest in the ideas and technical aspects discussed. The scientific publication was also published, contributing to the exchange of knowledge within the energy informatics community.
The research aligns with ECLIPSE DIGITAL’s wider objective of supporting interoperability and simplifying access to energy data through the Common European Reference Framework (CERF). By addressing the integration of distributed energy resources, this work contributes to the broader effort to make energy data more accessible and enable new digital energy services.
Participation in the conference provided a valuable opportunity to share research findings, engage with the scientific community and explore approaches that can support the ongoing digitalisation of Europe’s energy system.
